Plenty of Peplum

You’ve been seeing celebrities on red carpets wearing some extra fabric around their waist. You’re probably staring at it with mixed feeling, it’s attractive in a weird way. Well that little bunched up fabric at the waist line is called a peplum and I’m sure you’ve seen it before on the edges of blazers and jackets. Recently, when the trend came in this year, it’s just gotten  more exaggerated and been popping up on dresses and skirts. It’s been featured on the runway from the fall of 2011, through Spring/Summer of 2012 and is expected to reappear when the colder months come in. Keep reading for pictures of the runway, peplum dresses on celebs, and what peplum pieces you could add to your wardrobe to spice up your look…

Peplum Pieces

Peplum

Sparkle & Fade Audrey Peplum dress
Urban Outfitters ($69 $40)
A pointe knit dress with a high rounded neckline, a hidden zip in the back, and a pencil skirt to finish. Oh wait, let’s not forget the main detail – the split peplum accenting the waist — the perfect twist on an LBD.

Oh My Love Jersey Peplum Dress
ASOS ($58 $23)
A comfy cute dress with a scoop neckline, a fitted body, a peplum at the waist and a mini length pencil skirt. Best yet, it’s simple enough to pair on the accessories with a statement necklace and some accessories, or for a different look put your hair up in a messy side bun with some chandelier earrings and sparkly heels. Availabile in black and peach (pictured)

Nautical Peplum Tank
Forever 21 ($16)
A round neckline cotton tank with black and cream stripes that form and flatter your body shape, featuring a peplum hemline. What you can’t see in the picture, is that on the back, there is a deep V-cut decorated with a black bow.

Eternal Flame of Love Skirt
Modcloth ($43)
This simple but very cute skirt features flexible woven red fabric. It’s a red pencil skirt, with a flexible soft peplum (of course) at the waist that adds a little flare (or flame) to an otherwise boring simple work. Wear this with a white button up top to the office and be sure to wow all the boring skirts off your colleagues.

Bronze and Brains Skirt
Modcloth ($73 $36)
Even though it’s all decorated in in sequins and sparkly things, you’ll look much better than a disco ball. This peplum skirt has grey and gold seqins, but is a comfortable fit that moves with you. It’s a pencil skirt form, with a peplum accent.

Salt ‘n Peplum Dress
Modcloth ($48)
This gorgeous dress includes a lined white bodice with black dots. A green waistband that matches the skirt, cinches the waist. The top finishes out with a peplum, and the dress ends in the forest green skirt. Now what you can’t see, is that the top has a diamond cut out in the middle of the back that buttons at your neck  and has a hidden zipper just above the waistband.

The Zest is Yet To Come Dress
Modcloth ($48)
Lastly, this bright yellow dress is sure to make you shine! Featuring a sweetheart neckline, decorated with a bow, and a stretchy material in the back along with a zip, this dress is gorgeous for a summer party. Of course, the main feature is the peplum at the waist that flares out into a flowy skirt. It’s made with comfortable fabric that hugs your curves in all the right places.

Well, that’s all the peplum for today! Hope you guys enjoyed, and let me know if you’ve been wearing this trend or if you might be trying it out soon! Shoot some pictures to instagram at @hashtagbubbly of you rocking the peplum!
